چکیده

We consider a binary-symmetric channel where the input, modeled as an infinite sequence of bits, is distorted by a Bernoulli noise. In [8], a consistent estimator of the distortion, i.e., of the probability that a single bit is changed, is described under the basic assumption that the complexity of the input is finite. Here, we deal with two shortcomings: 1) Simons’ estimator requires some information on the value of the complexity; we describe a modified approach through the generalized Bernoulli components in which determination of the complexity is not needed. 2) Simons’ estimator exhibits a serious negative bias when the distortion is great; our modification largely overcomes this deficiency while reducing the variance. Asymptotics for the proposed estimators are studied, and their properties are illustrated through numerical studies.

Simultaneous estimation of heat fluxes applied to the wall of a channel with turbulent flow using inverse analysis

The main purpose of this study is to estimate the step heat fluxes applied to the wall of a two-dimensional symmetric channel with turbulent flow. For inverse analysis, conjugate gradient method with adjoint problem is used. In order to calculate the flow field,   two equation model is used. In this study, adjoint problem is developed to conduct an inverse analysis of heat transfer in a channel...

On runlength codes

-Several new results on binary ( d , k ) codes are given. First, a new derivation for the capacity of these codes based upon information theoretic principles is given. Based upon this result the spectrum of a ( d , k ) code is computed. Finally, the problem of computing the capacity of the binary symmetric channel under the condition that the input sequences satisfy the ( d , k ) constraint is ...

Good Error-Correcting Codes Based On Very Sparse Matrices - Information Theory, IEEE Transactions on

We study two families of error-correcting codes defined in terms of very sparse matrices. “MN” (MacKay–Neal) codes are recently invented, and “Gallager codes” were first investigated in 1962, but appear to have been largely forgotten, in spite of their excellent properties. The decoding of both codes can be tackled with a practical sum-product algorithm. We prove that these codes are “very good...

Extremality for Gallager's Reliability Function $E_0$

We describe certain extremalities for Gallager’s E0 function evaluated under the uniform input distribution for binary input discrete memoryless channels. The results characterize the extremality of the E0(ρ) curves of the binary erasure channel and the binary symmetric channel among all the E0(ρ) curves that can be generated by the class of binary discrete memoryless channels whose E0(ρ) curve...
